The Everyday Frustration

You’re getting ready for the day. As you imagine your outfit, you play mental gymnastics. Thinking… What bra do I have to wear today? Will the straps show under that top? Will the band show in the back?
Our first thought isn’t our outfits. It’s about our bra.
Instead of deciding on your outfit, you start narrowing down options based on your bra. You trade style for support (rightfully so).
But before your day starts, you have already made sacrifices.
This is a universally shared moment that happens to women more than we realize. Getting dressed shouldn’t be so difficult, but inevitably, it becomes a moment we often dread. In an attempt to solve this problem, we search for any solution, resulting in us buying more and more bras.

What the Industry Tells Women Instead

When shopping for that perfect bra, more often than not, we are told by brands that their bra is “the one”. But if we look closely, there’s a pattern.
Each bra is designed for one purpose: strapless for strapless tops, plunge for low necklines, balconette for square cuts, and t-shirt bras for basic tops. Each one for each different problem simply seems right. We are given quantity over quality. But really, this is what we’ve been telling ourselves because we don’t know any different.

The Hidden Truth

Imagine your favorite bra. Does it work under a top that’s strappy? High neck? Low neck? Open back? Casual?
Most bras are uniform. They are built in a single position, with fixed strap placement, and a specific assumption for how you’ll wear them. So if your outfit changes, your bra doesn’t.
Outfits require adaptability. Brands must think about how bra’s work into our lives, not how we work around our bras.

What Actually Solves the Problem

The bra must be designed to work with us, not control us.
The real problem isn’t that women need more bras. The problem is that bras constantly restrict women and the things they want to wear. Instead of changing our outfits, we want bras that will support us no matter what style we put on.
What solves the problem is a new approach to bras, and that’s what we did at Wherewithal.
